Community Artwork Project
Zoe Lyons Retirement Piece
The Ella Sharp Museum is thrilled to announce an exciting partnership with local artist Doug Jones to create a community artwork that will be featured in the Jackson office of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This project, tentatively titled DHHS PIXEL Project #3, will involve a large-scale collaborative artwork created using Doug Jones’ signature PIXEL Technique. Designed to bring people together, this unique method invites the community, including visitors and staff at the Jackson County MDHHS office, to paint individual Dot Sheets. Each sheet will be preserved and thoughtfully assembled by Doug Jones, culminating in a final piece that will grace the DHHS lobby.
The inspiration for this project began in a conversation between Doug Jones and Zoe Lyons, who recently retired after a distinguished career with MDHHS. Zoe’s dedication has been instrumental in fostering an environment that is inclusive, welcoming, and community-centered. This artwork symbolizes Zoe’s vision by inviting the community to collaborate on a piece that reflects their shared values and the welcoming spirit she helped create.
To honor Zoe Lyons’ legacy, we are seeking donations to fund this collaborative art project. Your support will not only celebrate Zoe’s impact but also establish a lasting work of art that embodies community engagement and unity.
