Welcome to the Gray Box Gallery at Ella Sharp Museum
A Space for Innovation, Exploration, and Experimentation
Located within the Ella Sharp Museum, the Gray Box Gallery is a bold new venture in contemporary art, science, and history. Inspired by the flexibility of black box theaters and the raw, immersive aesthetics of new and experimental media, this gallery is designed as a blank slate – an ever-evolving space that fosters innovation and boundary-pushing creative expression.
Unlike a traditional, white-walled gallery, the Gray Box is intentionally unadorned with its gray, industrial, and minimalist framework.
An Ever-Changing Experience
The Gray Box Gallery is built to embrace change. Whether it’s an artist constructing an installation specifically for the space, a scientist visualizing research through interactive media, or a historian reinterpreting the past with contemporary storytelling techniques, the Gray Box is an incubator for new and unexpected experiences.
Jackson, Michigan, has long been a city of transformation—a place where history and progress converge. The Gray Box embodies that spirit, offering a space that adapts, morphs, and reinvents itself with each new exhibition. Through this space, we aim to amplify local voices, encourage experimental collaboration, and bring cutting-edge creative work to our community.
