Michigan in the Civil War
Coming August 2025
Michigan in the Civil War explores the vital contributions of Michigan residents during one of the most defining moments in American history. Though no battles were fought on Michigan soil, its citizens played a key role from the war’s first shots at Fort Sumter to the surrender at Appomattox. This powerful traveling exhibition from the Detroit Historical Society features over 60 artifacts and photographs that illuminate the personal stories, sacrifices, and legacies of the Michiganders—soldiers, nurses, abolitionists, and leaders like Governor Austin Blair—who helped shape the outcome of the Civil War and the nation’s future.
