Book Talk with Author Jack Dempsey
Hosted by the Jackson County Michigan Historical Society
Join us for the launch of Radical of Radicals: Austin Blair, Civil War Governor – In His Own Words (Michigan in the Civil War), a powerful new work that brings to life the words and legacy of Michigan’s own “War Governor”, Austin Blair.
Blair, a fierce defender of human rights and the Union cause, believed secession was treason and pushed boldly for emancipation, equality, and victory in the Civil War. Branded a “radical” in his time, his vision of equal opportunity and justice for all marked him as a leader ahead of his era. This first of two volumes presents Blair’s speeches and writings in his own voice, carefully annotated and framed by historical context, offering a rare window into one of Michigan’s most consequential statesmen.
This evening will feature a 20-minute presentation with Q&A, followed by a book signing. The program is designed to be conversational, informal, and deeply informative – perfect for history lovers and anyone interested in the Civil War, Michigan history, or the enduring fight for equality in America.

Time:Â 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
